We tested (and thanks to Tindari for helping to test) to see what is the effect of intelligence (like using rings) on the damage spells make.
Below you see the slight increase of tick damage from elem spells but same 1800 initial damage because its doing -vitality and not actual damage. But I would say the increase in tick damage for the effort put in intelligence is negligible.
And second you see from arrow cascade again what I think to be a negligible increase in damage from the considerable increase in intel.
It is important to know that whatever the additional damage comes from increments of 75 intel. So 822 intel we got 1024 tick damage but 827 intel it was 1033 damage. This is because 75 x 10 = 750 intel and another 75 intel >>> 750 + 75 = 825 intel.
Thus I recommend not to use any intel gear or rings for any kind of spellcasters. This recommendation is valid on the 20th of October 2009.
Update: we did some more tests to check the effect on healing. We observed healing 3133 vs. 3206 with and without 480 intel. So the difference was only 73 healing for a wooping 480 intel. Again, for me this is negligible amount for the investment.
Update 2 (26th of Jan 2010): I was informed about other players who did also tests and discovered that there is no difference to the magic attack of many skills with or without intelligence boosting equipment. In the following forum thread you can see 16/19 people agreeing that there is no impact whatsoever on damage from intelligence.

What is the + on ring? Doesnt damage scale with higher + rings?
Hello, i'm playing AO Indonesia, there is one question about intelligence's effect, is it true that every 75 points intelligence is equal to one skill level..?
I'm a staff main :)
